Missional Community Leaders
Missional Community Leaders serve as frontline leaders of our church. As they model a life of discipleship to Jesus, Missional Community Leaders lead their Communities in practicing the way of Jesus, together, in Charlotte. If you are interested in learning more about leading a Community, please read the qualifications for leadership and the process for becoming a MC leader.
If you have read the qualifications & process, you can apply below:
Qualifications for Missional Community Leaders
F – FAITHFUL
Must be a Faithful Covenant Member. Missional Community Leaders must be covenant members of Life Church (or in the process of becoming a member). Included within the requirement of covenant membership is the expectation that the leader will be a devoted follower of Jesus.
A – AVAILABLE
Responsible and Available for the Mission of God. Missional Community Leaders should be organized, consistent, and diligent to follow through. While leading a community group is much more than administration, it does require you to communicate with members, prepare for community meetings, and follow up on the needs of members. Thus, in most cases, those who are in a particularly unstable season of life should not apply for group leadership.
I – INITIATIVE
Must Self-Feed and Self-Lead. Make your daily, living connection with Jesus Christ a priority—being in community with Him is the foundation for all communities.
T – TEACHABLE
Must be Able to Take Correction and Receive Feedback. Leaders must be open to constructive corrections from MC coaches and community members.
H – HEART
Must Have a Heart for People. Shepherding your people is a huge calling on community group leaders. This is done best from a heart that loves people.
Process to become a missional community leader
1 – Read the Qualifications for MC Leaders
Review the qualifications to consider whether now is a good time to step into community leadership.
2 – Attend a MC Leader Interest Meeting [June, Aug., Dec., or April]
The interest meeting gives you an overview of our vision for Missional Communities and expectations for Community leadership. Attending the interest meeting does not mean you are committing to become a Community leader. Dates for the New Leader interest Meetings will be listed on the application form and the Events tab on our church website/ app.
3 – Fill out New MC Leader Application
Complete the Missional Community Leader Application. The application will function as your RSVP for the upcoming New Leader Training.
4 – Attend the New Leader Training [June, Aug., Dec., or April]
The training takes place one week after the interest meeting and is for those who are seriously considering becoming Community leaders. We provide practical training in how to cultivate a committed community and lead your Community members to become devoted followers of Jesus.
5 – Read the MC Leader Field Guide
Our MC Leader Field Guide must be fully read at least two weeks after the new leader training.
6 – Meet with an elder to receive affirmation of leadership.
After you have attended the training, you will have two weeks to read the field guide and set a meeting with one of our elders for affirmation of your leadership.
7 – Launch New Community
If you are affirmed, then you will be assigned a Missional Community Coach and can begin meeting with your new community! You will be expected to have at least 4-5 others who are committed to launch your new community with you.
